Hello everyone,
As i mentioned in my last message, i was going to Machu Picchu the next day. I was picked up at my hotel and driven to the train station in Ollyamtambo. There i got on the backpackerstrain to the village where Machu Picchu is situated. I handed my luggage to my hotel representative and was put on the bus up to MP. Fortunately, it was great weather and i got into an english tour group. First we walked up to the traditional foto spot to take the ´money shot´ of MP. It was great to finally get there. I have now covered two wonders of the world. Not bad eh.
The tour was around three hours and we were informed thorougly about MP. It is one of the few inca places that was not damaged by the spanish invasion. It was not the most important place in the inca word, that was Cosco, meaning centre of the world. This is also reflected in the manor that MP is built. Mp is built on Machu Picchu mountain, it means old mountain. The correct inca name is unknown. Accross from MP is Weina Picchu. The next day i decided to go to MP really early and climb Weina Picchu. This is a climb of about 50 minutes and reveals the condor shape of MP. Ollyantambo is shaped like a Lama and the original city of Cosco (cusco is the new name) was shaped like a panther to represent the power. The condor represents the future.
When i got up to WP unfortunately it was very clouded so i had to wait about 2 hours for the clouds to clear. Then the scenery was spectaculair. Given the chance i will post pictures. After that i headed down and took the junction to the great cave and the temple of the moon. This was an extra 2 hours of walking. It was well worth it however.
Now i am in Cusco taking it easy for a few days before i head out to Lake titicaca. More about that in my next message.
